Monofiore Balloton
Venini bud vase available in various colors and sizes
Description
It is the ’70s, and the first installations appear and art becomes increasingly conceptual and expressive. In this climate of change, classical forms break free of their conventions.
The natural function of the vase changes: instead of many flowers, as it always has, it now holds just one. Meanwhile, the surface of the glass sheds its hardness: it looks soft, yet it is glass. The optical illusion of Venini's 1970 Monofiori lies in its name: Balloton, the unique technique that creates the matelassé effect on the surface.
Technique: the blown glass is worked by hand using the traditional balloton technique with a metal mould, for a criss-cross relief effect, and finished at the neck with a hot-applied coloured thread that varies in colour.
