6 Carte da Zogo coffee cups with saucers

The playful pattern of the "Carte da Zogo" line by Geminiano Cozzi Venezia 1765 sums up the social life of the 18th century, when a great many gaming rooms and casinos flourished in Venice, places of leisure where the bourgeoisie and the aristocracy met regardless of rank.

The rare yellow-ground decoration of this dinner service is adorned with playing cards in red and black suits, scattered over much of the surface together with multicoloured butterflies in flight.
