Description
The Herend manufactory owes its fame to the special beauty and uniqueness of its many hand-decorated services. Its masters are always skilled at renewing the patterns of services comprising thousands of pieces and rooted in centuries-old craft traditions, and at adapting them to the expectations of new customers.
The "Victoria" pattern, created by Fischer Mór, made the manufactory world-famous in the early 1850s. Yellow, red, blue and purple roses, butterflies and other small insects make up this oriental-inspired yet Hungarian-style decoration, which was a huge success at the London World's Fair in 1851. Its acclaim, besides the gold medal awarded by the jury, was also due to the fact that Queen Victoria of England herself, after whom it was later named, ordered the "Butterfly" service for Windsor Castle.
